Possum Proofing - Yeronga, Qld 4104

Urban Pest & Termite Solutions recently completed a possum proofing job at a residential property in Yeronga, securing the roof’s hip end with galvanised mesh and a one-way door.

Roof gaps can provide possums with access to a sheltered space inside your home. For this job, we fitted galvanised mesh around the hip end to create a strong physical barrier, closing off access while allowing airflow through the mesh.

We also installed a one-way door, which allows possums inside the roof to exit but prevents them from returning through the same opening. This is an important part of the exclusion process—simply sealing an entry point could trap an animal inside and cause harm to the possum. You must ensure this process is completed by a competently trained professional as trapping a native animal in the roof space such as a possum could cause the possum to die due to heat exhaustion and lack of water/ food.

The mesh and door work together to address both parts of the problem: providing a way out and securing the access point against re-entry. Carefully fitting the mesh around the roof’s shape helps ensure the finished installation provides effective protection. After a week the one way door is removed and the area is securely proofed using Galvanised mesh and roof screws to ensure the entry point is sealed and the entry point is proofed, not allowing re-entry.

Hearing scratching or movement in your roof, particularly around dusk or dawn? It may be time to have those potential entry points checked.
